Technical Support
This GCCLR page is intended to assist the reader in acquiring information regarding technology and the support of various technological equipment. It is not our intention to claim ownership to any of these sites, but to merely pass on to our students the benefits related to the technical support.
Cool Video Click on this link, then click on Warriors of the Net to see an informative video on the process of
the exchange of information from the computer to various internet sites. (To return to this site,
simply click the back button on your tool bar.)
If you're interested about how computers operate; for example, how memory works in a computer, simply click on memory.
Troubleshooting
If you're experiencing problems with your computer hardware or software, first try to remedy the problem by using this troubleshooting method. Click on What to Do When . . . to go to a troubleshooting site. You will then be able to satisfy your questions. (To return to this site, simply click the back button on your tool bar.)
Should you need extra help in finer details, GCCLR has multiple training links to help trouble shoot various basic technical problems. For example, when experiencing problems with Microsoft software error messages, one site that is extremely helpful is Microsoft Knowledge Base. Within this site you will be able to find all that is requested in order to complete your inquiries. (To return to this site, simply click the back button on your tool bar.)
Maintenance
Upon using your computer, there are several problems that you may experience regarding disc space, memory, and/or corrupted files. Microsoft has several items that you can use to help you alleviate these problems.
|
SCANDISK - is a program designed to check your hard drive for errors or fragmented files. First, go to start, then to accessories, next to system tools, and finally select (disk clean-up). Initially, you should select this option every two weeks. |

|
DEFRAGMENTER - is a program designed to put corrupted or fragmented files back together. Select this option if you use your computer frequently for downloads or you add and subtract files from your hard drive often. Initially, you should select this option every two weeks. | |
|
|

|
DOS PROMPT - can be selected in some problems that are more serious. To get to the DOS Prompt, click on start on the task bar, then click on run, type in command, and click enter. However, this option should be a last resort since some changes may adversely affect your computer permanently. It is my recommendation that if you have not been able to remedy the problem by this time you should seek the assistance of the facility's technician. |
